VICTORY IS OURS
Ps 18:37-50
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till
they were destroyed. 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell
beneath my feet. 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my
adversaries bow at my feet. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and
I destroyed my foes. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them
— to the LORD, but he did not answer. 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on
the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made
me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. 44 As soon as
they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. 45 They all lose
heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! 47
He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, 48 who saves me
from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises
to your name. 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness
to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
NIV
First we should take note that David speaks of himself by name, but the
interesting thing is he includes us, as we are descendants of David forever. Because
Jesus came to earth in human form and both Joseph and Mary were descendants of
David and we are in Christ, therefor we are the descendants of David. Joseph
came through the line of Solomon, a son of David and Mary came through the line
of Solomon’s brother, Nathan. The importance of this is in the application of
all the Lord says through the psalms of David. The Lord has given us all the strength
we need to make our enemy turn his back in flight. The Lord has given all the
strength we need to destroy our foe. When Satan cries for help, there is no one
to save him. The Lord does not answer him, nor does he answer the cries of the
wicked who would endeavor to destroy us.
Prov 28:9
9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are
detestable.
NIV
God has already delivered us, he has made us a head of nations. That
sounds more like just for David as he became king over the nations he conquered
in battle. However, we have become a
royal priesthood, a holy nation.
1 Peter 2:9-10
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a
people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you
out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but
now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you
have received mercy.
NIV
We are the people of God, a royal priesthood, a holy nation who is
above all nations, we rule over all nations in that sense, because someday we
will rule and reign with Christ.
2 Tim 2:11-12
11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live
with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him.
NIV
Although we will reign with Christ in the millennium, we already reign
with him over sin. With Christ we have defeated our enemies, Satan, death and
sin. Because we are in Christ those enemies are trembling in their strongholds,
they cringe before us, they lose heart, because they cannot overpower us, they
cannot shake us, they cannot ruin our lives, in fact they are subject to us. We
have the authority to tell Satan, death and sin to get behind us. We will rise
up and exalt our God, we will rise in the morning and shout his name before the
earth. Our God lives, and he is our Rock, He is our Savior. He is the one who
puts our enemies to flight and makes us victorious. We will sing his praises. We
will lift up holy hands praising our God. How can we stand so still when he is
so majestic? How can we not lift our hands, hearts and voices in praise to our
God? Rejoice for we are his holy nation, his royal priesthood declaring his praises
to all the nations. He shows us unfailing kindness, to his anointed one, David
and to us, his descendants. Victory is ours.
