HIS DELIGHT
Ps 18:7-19
7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains
shook; they trembled because he was angry. 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming
fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. 9 He parted the
heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. 10 He mounted the
cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness his
covering, his canopy around him — the dark rain clouds of the sky. 12 Out of
the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of
lightning. 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High
resounded. 14 He shot his arrows and
scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. 15 The
valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at
your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of
deep waters. 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were
too strong for me. 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the
LORD was my support. 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me
because he delighted in me.
NIV
This sounds a lot like the Day of the Lord, when he comes to defeat
Satan once and for all. Of course this could also be another day of his when he
merely incarcerates Satan for the thousand years during his reign with the saints. Some
call that the Day of the Lord. What we can be sure of is he is going to come
back. Jesus is going to return in all his glory for us. He has already defeated
death, having resurrected from the dead. Because he defeated death, we too will
also defeat death and be resurrected. Death has no hold on us. Jesus
is coming in all his power and glory. The earth and the heavens are going to
tremble. There is scripture which tells us the sun will go dark, the moon will
not give any light, pure darkness will cover the face of the earth and then
Jesus, the light of the world will appear with lighting, hail, storm clouds,
thunder, and he will be seen by every eye on earth. All men will know that
Jesus is coming to defeat the enemy of our soul. What is described here could
be the battle of Armageddon, when Satan and his are all defeated once and for
all and cast into the lake of burning sulfur. This could be the consuming fire
that came from his mouth, the burning coals which blazed out of him. Because we
know nothing was made or created that Jesus did not create, the lake of burning
sulfur is also his creation. He has make it for the express purpose to be the
place of torment for Satan, the beast and the false prophet. There is also
enough evidence that those who took the mark of the beast will also be cast
into the lake. There is also enough evidence to indicate all those who refused
Jesus as their Lord and Savior will end up in that lake of burning sulfur as
well. However, anyone who confesses Jesus as Lord and Savior, whosoever believes
will not perish, but have everlasting life. Those are the ones, we are the ones
who he reaches down and takes hold of. We have been drawn out of the deep
waters. That is also reminiscent of Noah’s ark. We are in the cross, safe and
secure, while the wicked drown in the waters. The enemy is stronger than the
flesh. The idea is that alone without God and his armor, the enemy can defeat
us, for we do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but against rulers, the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the forces of
evil in the heavenly realm or in the spiritual world. The Lord has been and
will always be our support. He brings us out into the spacious place, the new
paradise he has created for us. He rescues us because he delights in us.
What a great thought, God delights in us because we believe in Jesus. We bring
delight to God. We are God’s delight.
