THE ROCK
Ps 19:12-14
12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. 13 Keep your
servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be
blameless, innocent of great transgression. 14 May the words of my mouth and
the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my
Redeemer.
NIV
This first phrase gives us some difficultly. His has been added for clarity. Many of the other versions put it in parenthesis or italics as we have here or add a footnote. His is not in the original language at
all, and in the interlinear it was added with a Strong’s number 9999 which
indicates, added for clarity. However it would seem when we read the original it
appears to mean something other than who can understand God’s error. It seems
to read more like: How can we understand the secret errors of our heart,
forgive my hidden faults. Then we ask God to keep us from willful sins that
they will not rule over us. We have willful sin and secret sin, that is sin we
do not discern as sin. Both we need to ask God to forgive us for, even show us
that sin we do not discern as sin, or secret sin. When God forgives us he
forgives us, he does not remember our sin.
Heb 8:12
12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no
more."
NIV
We know God cannot forget, otherwise if he could actually forget, he
would not be God. But the idea of not remembering our sin means he will never
bring it up before us again.
Ps 103:12
2 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our
transgressions from us.
NIV
He simply has removed them and will not hold them against us, nor will
he tell us that we have done this same thing over and over again and because we
keep failing he is going to cast us out. No, no and no, he has compassion on
those who fear or revere him. Because he forgives we then will be blameless and
holy in his sight. Because we have accepted him as our Lord and Savior then the
desire of our heart should be that the words of our mouth and the meditation,
or murmuring sound as with music, of our heart be pleasing to him. Let our
heart sing for the Lord, let it sing rejoices and praise for the Lord. Who else
could be our Rock? Who else could be our redeemer, other than God? Who else can
we trust our life with, other than God? Who else can forgive our sin and never
bring it up to us again, other than God? Who else knows the secret sin in our
heart, other than God? And still he forgives and loves us, has compassion on
us, and protects, provides, guides, corrects, encourages, and teaches us. He is
our Rock, all other ground is sinking sand.
