His way

HIS WAY

Ps 18:30-36
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
NIV

Is there any question that man’s way is imperfect? Is there any reason we should believe that man’s words are anything but flawless? There is not a human dead or alive that we can take refuge in or be our shield. Only God fits those qualities. Only God can be our Rock. Only his ways can be perfect and his word is the only word which is flawless. We would be fools to think anything else. How can we take our stand against the enemy without God? God gives us strength beyond human bounds, he makes our way perfect, as long as we remain in him. That is the implication here. If we stray from his path for our life, his perfect way and listen to voices other than his word, then we will be weak, and without strength to win the battle. But if we remain in him, our rock, our refuge then we will have the strength to win the battle against the enemy of our soul. God gives us what we need to stand on the heights, which is not in the valley of despair or some other type of low point. He trains us for battle, he gives us all we need to be able to win the victory, even over death itself. We are sustained by the right hand of God. That means we are not sustained by our own efforts, abilities or knowledge. God is the one who makes us great, therefore, we are only great as determined by God. This again should show us we cannot make ourselves great, no matter what supposed important thing we do, or how many good deeds we perform, or how spiritual we appear to act. Our greatness comes from God. He lifts up those who put their hope and trust in him, those who are humble of heart.

Luke 1:52
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
NIV

God sets our path and he makes it straight, broad, and flat, so we can walk in it and not stumble, not turn our ankle, not fall or be injured. His path is the only path like that, in fact, he even makes our feet like the deer. We can run like the wind on his path. If we try to walk in our own self-made path, we are bound to stumble. Our path is rocky, filled with pitfalls, hills and valleys. It is difficult at best and without the light of God, for it is a path of darkness and on that path we will never find our way. But God shines his light on his path, and shows us the way to live, as well as the way to eternal life. Let us not get distracted by some path other than his, some words other than his, some imperfect way other than his. It is his way or the low way.
