HANDIWORK OF GOD
Ps 19:1-6
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of
his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they
display knowledge. 3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not
heard. 4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of
the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, 5 which is like a
bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his
course. 6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the
other; nothing is hidden from its heat.
NIV
Every morning brings new glories of the Lord to our vision. We look out
and see the most wonderful sunrise, it brings us knowledge of the handiwork of
God. The sun shines its heat and light upon all the rest of his handiwork. In
the spring we can see the array of flowers bursting forth from the earth, not
just the ones we planted in our yards, but if we were to walk through the woods,
wild flowers are everywhere proclaiming his handiwork. The trees are turning
from brown to green, the birds chirping their music. Spring proclaims his
handiwork, summer as well. Everything is growing, living and giving us all the
wonders to enjoy. When fall comes his handiwork is shown in the multitude of
colors that he paints the trees. All the earth is full of his handiwork and
then he covers it all with the most amazing white blanket. The sky, both day
and night display his creativity. We know the earth is moving, but it appears
the sun races across the sky and at times the sky is dotted with great white
puffy clouds, and other times storm clouds, that bring us rain from heaven. Yes,
there are also those times the storms are fierce, destructive even, but they
too declare his power, his handiwork. Although they have no voice, they teach
us all about the Lord. God has proclaimed this to be true again and again.
Rom 1:18-20
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the
godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it
plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities
— his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being
understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
NIV
If we want to know God we merely have to observe his handiwork, his
creation. When science says it discovered something, it discovered what he
created. All the elements of the periodic table were created by him. All the
laws of physic were created by God. He made gravity, he made the air, he gave
flight to the birds, and thus to man because he observed the birds. He caused
the moon to effect the oceans bringing tides to each shore. All we have to do
is observe his handiwork and learn. The moon not only brings the tides, but it
lights up the night sky, so we never have to be in the dark. He showers the
heavens with other suns, we call them stars, so to illuminate the heavens above
us. Men have devised methods and devices to search the heavens, to see them
closer, to observe there patterns, their movements. We learn how vast our galaxy
is, how far our universe extends. But we still cannot see its end. We cannot
tell just how large is the handiwork of God. The wicked conjure up all sorts of
reasons for the universe, our galaxy, our solar system and the earth itself,
including all living things, especially mankind, and how it began, but we know
it was the handiwork of God.
