DEVOTION
THE
REVELATION
THIRSTY
Rev
22:18
17
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say,
"Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him
take the free gift of the water of life.
NIV
And
now the Spirit and the whole of the church make a final invitation to whoever
wishes to have eternal life. If this is not the last word on free will nothing
is. Come! Both the Spirit and all of us who are the church, all the believers inviting
people to come to Jesus so they can be saved and be prepared for his kingdom.
Both the Spirit and all the saints that are already are tell those who hear and
respond to join in the invitation to others to come to Jesus. It is a general
call to everyone that is thirsty. This is the key word which bears some
thought. If a person is not thirsty they will never desire to come and drink of
the free gift of the water of life.
John
7:37-38
37
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud
voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever
believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow
from within him."
NIV
John
4:13-14
13
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14
but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I
give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
NIV
It
is certain that Jesus is the spring of living water. The point here is that man
tries his best to satisfy his own thirst but whatever he seeks to do this will
not satisfy him for long and he will thirst for more. This is so obvious to
anyone. We strive for material goods but whatever we gain, we still want more,
never satisfied with what we have. It starts from when we are children. We get
a new toy and soon the fun of it fades and it ends up in the bottom of the toy
box. Then we want another, better new toy. This cycle continues through our
whole life. Which one of us can say we have enough money, in fact more then we
want? Which of us can say we are completely satisfied with how our life is? Who
can say they are one hundred percent content? The only way to never thirst
again is to come to Jesus and drink of the living water that leads to eternal
life. Does he bring us all the things we want? Does that mean we will have all
the money we will ever want or need? Maybe, maybe not. That is not the
important issue and that certainly is not a valid reason to come to Jesus. He
does tell us that we have not because we ask not, or that we ask with the wrong
motives. The point here is that if we are thirsty, if a person is finding no
peace in their life. If a person is yearning for more out of life than just
living in the rat race of society. If a person is cannot find any real
fulfillment in life, or is seeking the real meaning of life. Come to Jesus is
the invitation. He is the answer. We are to invite everyone. Sometimes people
build these great facades and they appear on the outside to have it all, but
inwardly they are filled with fear, anxiety and hopelessness trying their best
to cover it up and maybe we think they will not what this living water. But the
fact is all mankind needs Jesus and unless they are invited they may not ever
come. Someone invited us, we were thirsty, thirsty indeed. But not anymore. There
is no more thirst in us, we are fully satisfied. We thank God, we praise the
name of Jesus for all that he has done for us, all that he is doing in us and
all that he will continue to do through us. We will never thirst again.
