Rev
22:16

"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this
testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the
bright Morning Star."
NIV
Jesus
makes his next to the last statement in the whole of scripture. This is like of
the importance of his words upon the cross when he was with us in human flesh.
Now he stands at the right hand of the Father in heaven and he is in his full glorified
state. He tells John and thus all of us who have ears to hear. This means a
heart of understanding, a heart that is bent toward the things of heaven rather
than of the world. He tells him it was he who sent his angel to give John this
testimony for the churches. Here is the testimony he gave: Jesus is the Root of
the Offspring of David and the bright Morning Star. It does seem a little odd,
yet Jesus is in fact the root of David and his offspring. As the creator of all
which is created, David exists because of Jesus, therefore Jesus is the Root of
all the living in his divine nature. But in the flesh he came in the line of
the royal line of David thus making him the true heir to the throne in Israel.
So in his human nature he truly is the King of the Jews. Although in the movie “The
Da Vinci Code” they suggested Jesus was married to Mary and had children, and
Sophie was now the sole heir of Christ. Just another way the world has been deceived by Satan. Jesus was the last of the human royal
family. Because Jesus was the last rightful heir to the throne of David and he
is now in his glory, and lives forever, he is the alone true David and
everlasting King.
Ps
145:13
13
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all
generations.
NIV
Dan
7:27
7
Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of the kingdoms under the whole
heaven will be handed over to the saints, the people of the Most High. His
kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey
him.'
NIV
Certainly
it is the wisest of all human thought to consider which kingdom we should be a
part of and it is the wisest choice to be in his kingdom. To choose the kingdom
of this world, which is ruled by none other than Satan will only lead to the second
death. Although some have said religion is a crutch for weak-minded people, it
is exactly the opposite. Christianity is for the thinking, for those who
contemplate, for those who research and seek the truth, for those whose minds
are open to the things of God. It is those who have been deceived by Satan who
are close-minded unwilling to explore the truth. They have been convinced they
are the intelligent ones, but in reality their thinking is futile, producing
nothing of eternal worth. Their thinking, their accomplishments are all
temporal. On the other hand, we who have clearly made the wisest choice, see
our efforts, our service for the sake of the gospel, as having eternal worth.
If we are privileged enough to assist someone in making that wise choice to
follow Jesus, all of heaven rejoices and one more will enter those gates into
the new city of Jerusalem. And who is to know if we only assist but one person,
that one might be able to assist hundreds or thousands. Someone shared the truth
with D.L. Moody, Billy Graham, and who knows the countless others who have
influenced so many. We may not be some
great well known evangelist, but we have, like all of us, been giving the
opportunity to share the gospel with someone. To tell them the truth, to assist
them in making the wisest decision of their lives, one that will last an eternity.
Jesus
also testifies that he is the bright Morning star. When we think of the morning
star we think of the still of the night, the moment before the sun makes it
appearance in the horizon and ushers in the day. The morning star is the brightest
star in the night sky just before the dawn. It is as if it is announcing the
coming of the sun, a new day. This is what Jesus is referring to here. He is
that Morning Star. Yes he has been referred to as the Sun, being the light to
the world. Yes he will be the light of the new city of Jerusalem, as we have
been told there will be no need of the sun or moon. But here he tells John and
us that he is ushering in a new day, an eternal day. Who would choose to live
in the dark, having everything they have including themselves perish when they
have the opportunity to live in the light, to live in the eternal day in the
paradise of God? We have made the right choice, indeed the right choice.
Josh
24:14-15
14
"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the
gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the
LORD. 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers
served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are
living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
NIV
I
choose Jesus.
