SEARCH
1 Peter 1:10-12
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
NIV
It would appear these men of old, this prophets who heard from God, who were inspired by the Spirit of God to pen words of coming events, did due diligence to determine when all they knew was to happen, would in fact happen. As we see it was revealed to them that the time would be after the end of their time on the earth. But that mattered not to them for they were convinced of the salvation that would come. I think it would do us well to engage in due diligence searching the scriptures for the truth of God. If even the angels long to look into the truths of God and how all this is going to play out in the end times, how much more should we. Perhaps too many believers have a tendency to stay clear of the revelation to John claiming it is too complicated to understand. The prophets understood the words they wrote were about things that would happen later on and that they were surely serving those who would live after them. Would it not do us good to understand that which is going to happen so that we might share that knowledge with those who have not yet heard what is going to happen, thus not just serving ourselves, but serving them, as the prophets did? We need to study the scriptures, searching intently for the truths of God so that we might be able to serve those who need to hear. I am sure that is the main purpose so many believers have written books to help people, to guide people to the truths, or to inspire them to search the scriptures. This is why I write, not only for finding the truth for myself, but to inspire others to see the truths as well. Should not we all be engaged in the search and in the service to others, not only sharing the gospel with them, but what is to become of them if they accept or refuse? If the prophets and the angels searched then who are we not to? Are we so enlightened already that we need not search? I think it must be a daily, lifelong endeavor. Search!
