It is Right

DEVOTION 1 PETER IT IS RIGHT 1 Peter 2:13-15 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. NIV Would it not make perfect sense that we believers should law abiding citizens of the land in which we live, even if we are aliens and strangers, with citizenship in Heaven. What would it do as a witness for God if we went around breaking the laws of the land? I would think it would be so silly for a believer to put some Christian symbol on the back of their car then speed down the highway passing everyone, or weaving in and out of traffic causing others to get upset. Is this not being disobedient to God? I suppose it would be alright to speed if they were going to be late for church. Yet a lot more is at stake here. Of course in the United States we, even believers have the right to voice our opinion regarding the wrong doing of those serving in government with the right to vote against them, replacing them with those who we believe would serve in a manner more befitting the country. But in many parts of the world believers do not have that right and still God expects them to live under the rule or authority of those governments. Although God did free His people from the oppression of evil pharaoh, He did not remove them from the grip of the Roman empire, when he inspired Peter to write this. All believers should live as good law abiding people so as to be a witness for Christ. We need to keep within the constants of the law in every manner. This excuse of refusing to obey some law because of serving a higher power has no basis for this higher power declares we live in accordance with this law of the land. It may not be easy, but it is right. Should the law forbid us to meet together to worship God in a public setting, such as church, what would we do? Right, never live in what if. Simple live for God for it is right.
