Prepare Your MInd
DEVOTION
1 PETER
PREPARE YOUR MIND
1 Peter 1:13-16
13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
NIV
Because he has given us a new birth, because it is into a new inheritance, because it is keep in heaven for us and it will never fade, spoil or perish, because we love him, because we are receiving the goal of our faith, the salvation of our souls, therefore.
That is it in a nutshell, therefore, because of all this we need to prepare our minds for action. This would imply, not it outright declares we cannot just sit and soak in the pew of some church. We need to prepare, we need to diligently search the scriptures, we need to learn and grow in our faith making the Word of God so much a part of our thinking process that it dominates our every choice in life. This is so we will no longer conform to the evil desires we once had. This is even for those who think they have been believers since the time they exited the womb. No matter how young the conversion experience once every one of us lived in ignorance. So we all need to prepare our minds for action, we need to be actively involved in building our mental capacity regarding the Holy Scriptures. That would seem to me a never ending process. There is no such thing as arriving at the place where no more preparation is needed, they we have learned all there is to learn, and we have completely achieved a successful non-conformity to the old ways when we lived in ignorance. It would seem the reason for this preparation of our minds is so we can be set apart for God, so we can be pure, morally blameless and consecrated. There is an effect on our part in this life we live, a pattern of choices made each and every day we live for God. We can choose to think about what we think about. We can determine to think about God and how he would have us live, or we could think about the ways of the world and how everyone else who refuses God thinks. It is God we makes us holy, it is God who sets us apart, it is God who consecrates us, justifies us, sanctifies us, but it is us who prepare our minds.
