THE LORD REIGNS
Psalms 93
93:1
The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea — the LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.
NIV

The Lord reigns, we sing a song about that. Is it an affirmation that he reigns in our heart, or that he reigns over all the earth? Could it be both? Most likely we think about his reigning in our heart or life, but this psalmist is talking about the Lord reigning over all the world. He is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. He goes on to speak about the fact that the seas have no authority of their own, no matter how much the seas might pound, he is mightier than any movement of power of water on the earth. There it is right in the face of any of mankind who think they have any power over the earth, or the sea level, or the waves, even the waves of hurricanes or tsunamis. They have no power over the earth at all, not a minuscule amount of control over the ice caps, the sea, the land, the air, or any of the environment because the Lord reigns over all the earth, he is the one robed in majesty, he is the one who firmly established the world and it cannot be moved, changed, destroyed, unestablished by anyone other than the Lord. What he establishes is established forever. His statutes stand firm, his testimonies, or divine laws stand firm. This could make reference to the laws of Moses, or the laws of the covenant both the old and the new, but in the context of the song, it looks like it means the laws of nature. His statutes of nature are firm, he controls nature by his might, his arm has all the strength, and all that is shall be until he decides it is not. His holiness adorns his house for endless days. Now we could personalize this as we began thinking his reign is in our life, our heart and that is firmly established. No matter what power comes against us, he is armed with strength. His law is firm in our life and because we are his house, his temple, and his holiness adorns us for endless days. Either way we want to approach the concept of this song, man does not reign, the Lord reigns for endless days.
