PROVERBS
A FOOL SAVED
Prov 19:29
29 Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of
fools.
NIV
It matters not if a person says there is no God, or mocks sacred
rights, or spiritual thought and behavior. In fact that person is a fool for no
matter their disbelief or making fun of the things of God, they will still have
to stand before him. The hardship these individuals will have to face is
unimaginably horrific. There are those who espouse we humans cannot grasp the
fullest of God, that there are mysteries beyond human understanding. It may be
true in the sense those who mock him, the fools of this world cannot understand
the pain and suffering and ultimately the end they will have to face. These
people may face such an end, but there are also those who do not necessarily
mock God, make fun of him, or as the Hebrew word implies to make mouths at,
i.e. scoff at God, but merely do not believe. There may even be people who say they
believe in God, but do not believe a person as to be born again in order to
enter the kingdom of God. There are also people who believe in God, or say they
believe in God but do not follow any of his commands. These are the people who
think they are good persons, doing no harm to others, but at the same time do
not acknowledge they need to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, confessing
and repenting of sin. Would all these people classify as fools? Or is it just
reserved for those who mock God. Yet the Hebrew word can also be seen as making
mouths at, or giving God lip service. This then might include us believers.
We might fall into the category of saying we will obey his commands but then
going about doing that which we want to do instead. This could also include
when we interpret the scriptures to fit our own set of beliefs, so to justify
the way we live, as being in accordance with is will. These varied forms of interpretation
has been a core issue with man since the beginning of his time on earth. Satan
proposed to Eve that very thing, questioning what exactly God has told them
about that one tree. Was Adams interpretation correct, or did God mean
something else. We have been arguing that same issue forever. What does the
word of God mean? Could some of us be fools in that sense, misunderstanding the
truth, believing what we want to believe rather than hearing the truth of the
matter? Yet the point is we are still believers, we still all accepted Jesus Christ,
we are all saved. Those who mock God, make fun of him are not saved, and that
should give us a moment to thing how important it is for us to make every
effort to share the truth of salvation with them. They still might mock the
truth, they still might sneer at us, or at God rather. But the fact is they may
not be aware of the disaster awaiting them. They still might be open to the
Spirit if they here the truth. How can they know, unless someone tells them.
Rom 10:8-15
"The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your
heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you
confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your
heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him
will never be put to shame." 12
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — the same Lord is Lord of
all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on
the name of the Lord will be saved."
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And
how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they
hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can they preach unless they
are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring
good news!"
NIV
The mocker may simply not know the truth about God, about salvation, so
who is going to tell them if it is not us? We merely have to look at our feet.
Are they beautiful? Are we bringing the good news to the fools? We cannot do that if we
do not mingle with them. We cannot do that if we only associate with other
believers. We cannot do that if we are not living the truth before them in the
first place. The worse thing would be for them to consider us a hypocrite. We might
live well before them, hoping they will ask us why, but unless we speak up
about the truth of God, they cannot hear, if they cannot hear, they cannot
believe. How can they hear unless we tell them? Let us pray the Spirit will
reveal those fools to us in hopes we will be able to bring them to the saving knowledge
of Christ so they can avoid the punishment prepared for them.
