FULFILLED PROMISE

Gen 28:10-15

10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Do these truths only apply to Jacob, or can we take that promise of the LORD personally? He is still the same God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and now Jacob. Because Jesus came through this lineage, all the peoples on earth, which includes us, are blessed through Jacob's offspring, meaning Jesus. Is there any blessing greater than Jesus? How could we live with peace in our hearts if it were not because of Jesus? How could we experience eternal life without Jesus? If Jesus had not paid the price for us, going to the cross in our place, we would be stuck here on earth until the time when the fiery furnace awaited us. The LORD's promise to Jacob has already come true; in fact, in the realm of heaven, all things have already come true. That truth is beyond our full understanding; nevertheless, it is still true. However, that means whatever the LORD promises will always happen, because it has, because with God there is no time. We are the only ones who are created by God who live under the constraints of time. The LORD promised Jacob that he would bring him back to this land and that he would not leave him until the LORD had done what he had promised him. Jesus promised us that he would come back for us and take us back to the place we should be, where he is, and that he would never leave nor forsake us until he has done all that he promised us. Because he promised we will be with him, we will never be without Jesus. We can now live in perfect peace knowing Jesus is always with us. The LORD always fulfills his promise. Jesus is God's fulfilled promise.
