The Light of God

 DEVOTION

GENESIS

THE LIGHT OF GOD

Gen 1:14-19

14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning — the fourth day.

We continue with the creation story, which many believe is fiction and would rather believe that life came from non-life, which flies in the face of the law of genesis. But we get ahead of ourselves because we now are with the creation of the universe. Of course, God simply told Moses about the two lights in the sky that are concerning the earth, the sun, and the moon. However, we know that the sun is not actually in the sky of the earth. But that the earth is in orbit around the sun and the moon is in orbit around the earth. However, at the time when God related his creation story to man, it would not been right to try to explain to him all about the solar systems, galaxies, and the whole of the universe. It would have been too much for the man at that time to grasp the whole of everything concerning all that, so we simply have two lights in the expanse over the earth. One light for day and one light for night. Yet he did tell man about the stars, for even then during the night, man would be looking into the sky full of stars. It is interesting the Hebrew word translated as stars, is used for the Messiah, the bright and morning Star as he defines himself to John in the revelation given to him. Jesus said, “I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star”. Jesus is the Star who rules the whole of the universe, and the lives of those who put their faith in Him. Once again, we get ahead of ourselves, but it is interesting how the word star in Hebrew is also used to define the Messiah. However, the point of these two lights is for man, himself. Life as God is going to define it cannot live without the lights in the sky. The sun is essential to life itself. All the plants of the earth that God established need that sun, that light to produce their seed-bearing or their fruit. We now know the science of photosynthesis within all plant life, which was established by God. The man searches the universe, but not to find God, but to try to make up some theory of constant expansion, so as to believe in some “Big Bang”. Again, life from non-life. Yet, it is God and we know God is revealing himself through all of his creation, and we will also know that the light is good because Jesus said that he is the Light of the world. We live in the Light of God.
