Living Creatures

 DEVOTION

GENESIS

LIVING CREATURES

Gen 1:20-23

20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morning — the fifth day.

And life begins, but this is not a life that starts from non-life as some think we came out of a premortal soup and eventually crawled out onto the land and over millions of years evolved into multi-millions of different species. This is life that came from the living God, who spoke each and every species into existence just the way they are today. Of course, some did become extinct due to a variety of reasons. However, this was the day in God’s creation story when he created all the living creatures within the waters and those who fly within the sky.  All the fish and mammals within the waters. This could include everything, even turtles, dolphins, whales, sea lions, seals, penguins, anything that makes its living in the sea, plus every kind of fish that exists. Everything that is did not just happen, everything is due to the very word of God with all his creative power, which we see he has an incredible imagination. We look at all the beautifully colored birds of the air, and the greatness of the variety both in size, from the slight little hummingbirds to the great bald eagle or the condor. We do not think about it much but everything that flies in the sky includes that pesty little mosquitoand the rest of those little bees, and even the fly. God also created every one of them the fish and the birds so they could be fruitful and increase in numbers, which tells us that every species he created was both male and female, so they would multiply in numbers. This is God’s plan for life. We will see the rest of this on the next day when all the beasts of the land are created but let us see how creative our God is. How he is putting everything together perfectly so that harmony exists. God never creates disharmony or dissension in his creation. The story has not come to the place when he makes us in his image, but we cannot help but think that we are the only creatures upon the earth who can establish disharmony, discontentment, dissension, and fractions so that we all do not fit perfectly together as God would have us to live under his loving care, and according to his will. We also know that all creation lived in harmony before the great flood, but then after the flood, it was when God allowed the predatorial pattern to become the natural way of all living things. Nevertheless, whenever we see all that flies in the air and know of all the swims in the waters, we see the hand of God at work. Everything that has life is due to God. What a magnificent God that we are so blessed to know, and to share this planet with all the living creatures of the water and the air.
