The Expanse

 DEVOTION

GENESIS

THE EXPANSE

Gen 1:6-8

6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning — the second day.

NIV

The sky is more than the sky the birds fly in or even in our modern world where airplanes soar. Some military planes have reached seventy thousand feet or more in the sky. Now, we have launched rocket ships reaching past our sky and have gone into the expanse reaching the moon, and other non-manned ships have gone to Mars, and beyond. How big is this expanse? All our high-power telescopes have given us insight into the expanse of planets, suns, and solar systems of great size, and yet they have not been able to see the end of the expanse or the shield of water that is above the expanse. This tells us that God separated the waters with the expanse, thus there was water under it and above it, so it would make perfect sense the water is still above the expanse. All this tells us just how powerful, and awesome God is. There is nothing God cannot do. He is so powerful to create just with his word, to speak and there is a space so large, so much of an expanse that we cannot even imagine how far the edge of space would be. Yet, at this time when God spoke space or this expanse into existence, there was nothing below the expanse. God had yet put the lights in the expanse, although the account coming about the lights is just regarding the sun and the moon, however, we know all the universe, was put into the expanse. Then we think how far heaven is, where it is, somewhere beyond the expanse. So far, we could never be able to see it with human eyes, yet someday we will travel that far in the spirit when we breathe our last. When we think of the power of God within this account of creation, brings us the truth is just how small we are. It makes us know that we cannot do anything to change that which God spoke into existence. No matter how powerful of a rocket engine we can make, it can only touch such a small fraction of God’s expanse, almost an uncalculated figure, it is so minuscule in comparison to the vastness of the expanse God made. This is the same God who loves us, will answer our call, and is so pleased with our praise. Let us never forget how majestic and powerful God is and that nothing is impossible for him. Let us always be looking to God for all our needs, all that we are, and all that we do. We are but man and completely reliant on the God who created this great expanse. Our planet is just a speck in this great expanse and yet God came here to bring us life.

And we are only a speck in comparison to our planet. Thank you Pastor Rich for giving me a better understanding and encouragement of the Word! God bless you!
