Holy and Blameless

 DEVOTION

THE LETTER TO THE EPHESIANS

HOLY AND BLAMELESS

Eph 1:3-10

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment — to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

NIV

One of the spiritual blessings in Christ is that we were chosen before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. However, in the Greek it says that he chose us in him. We think this makes all the difference in this idea of being the chosen.  The idea that God would choose us and not chose someone else is simple unthinkable. If God did not choose us and chose someone else that would mean, we were created condemned from our birth with no chance whatsoever of inheriting eternal life. that would mean even if we chose to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior it would mean nothing to God before he did not choose us and we would simply be living this life praising our Lord and Savior Jesus in vain for we would still be condemned to the burning lake of sulfur. But the fact is that God predetermined the way for us to be holy and blameless in his sight was through Jesus Christ. Once we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we were no longer an object of God’s wrath and now he sees us as  in Christ who is holy and blameless, thus we are now holy and blameless in the sight of God. Although we are still in our humanity and as such, we are still corruptible, perishable and mortal, with all the faults that come with those traits, He only sees us as being in Jesus Christ and thus holy and blameless. In order words because we are in Christ, we are holy, pure, morally blameless, religious ceremonially, consecrated, and blameless or unblemished. We have to know that no matter how hard we try in our own strength of power, or our own decision, we cannot live as holy and blameless. It does not matter how much we do, how many ways we try to live uprightly, or how many good things we try to do, nothing will work that makes us holy and blameless in his sight. The only way that God sees us as holy and blameless is for us to be in Christ Jesus. Let us never wander from that truth. Let us never get caught up in trying to be a good person, doing good things, thinking our deeds are enough or have meaning regarding making us holy and blameless. Yes, we should try to live a faithful life, but is it God who started all the good work in us in Christ and it is God who is going to complete all the good work in us in Christ for everything is in Christ. That is why we are holy and blameless in his sight.
