All things are possible

DEVOTION
GENESIS
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

Gen 18:9-15

9 "Where is your wife Sarah?" they asked him. "There, in the tent," he said. 10 Then the LORD  said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?" 13 Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' 14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son." 15 Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh."But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."
NIV

The rest of the story is now before us. The three persons which approached the encampment of Abraham, either being angels of the Lord or the Lord himself manifested in the trinity was eating the refreshments Abraham had ordered prepared for them. He was standing by, which means he was not sitting eating with them. So now they asked about Sarah. “Where is your wife Sarah?” Exactly why they needed to know her location is not revealed to us other than their concern that she was near enough either to hear them, or far enough as to not hear them. But she was near enough and she was listening to the conversation. We could focus on the prying ears of Sarah, but that is not the story here, the truth for us here. The Lord reveals to Abraham it is now time for him and Sarah to have that promised son and they will have him within the year. We are not told that Abraham had any doubts, but we are told Sarah snickered within the tent. They were near one hundred years of age, old even in the standards of those days. The life span of people were getting shorter and shorter and they were well past child bearing age. The proof of the divine nature of this trinity is in their knowing her response although it was only in her thoughts. In addition to knowing her thoughts, they also were reaffirming the promise made by the Lord God Most High to Abraham. We do use the term they instead of he, as this was a trinity of persons. It well could have been angels, but it might have been the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit manifested in human form. This we nor anyone else will truly know except Abraham for we are not told who they really were. Yet within their dialog with Abraham a truth is revealed for us to live by. They revealed they heard her thoughts even after she lied trying to hide her true thoughts. This in itself should be enough for us to ponder on for the rest of our lives. The lord not only sees our behavior, he knows our thoughts.

 Ps 139:4
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
NIV

This certainly would be one of the greatest truths we should know about our relationship with God. He is not far off in some distant heaven unaware of our daily life, nor our thoughts. He is with us every moment of the day and night. The Holy Spirit, one of the persons of the Holy Trinity. God is dwelling within us, a part of our being. This should also bear much upon the other truth revealed to us in this narrative. The Lord tells Abraham, “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” If we ever have any doubt about anything, we should remember this phrase, if we remember nothing else. Although we certainly remember much about our relationship with the Lord, and have hidden many truths in our heart, this is one that should truly be there. Nothing is impossible with God. He can do anything and everything.

Luke 1:36-37
37 For nothing is impossible with God."
NIV
Luke 18:27
27 Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
NIV

Is there any reason we, as believers, should live a crippled life? We have a relationship with the living God, who created all things that are created. God has knit us together in our mother’s womb. He knows everything about us, he designed us to his very own specifications.

Matt 10:30-31
30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
NIV

Nothing is impossible with God. This is a truth we can hold on to.

Matt 19:26
26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible ."

NIV
