HERE I AM
Ps 40:4-8

4 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. 5 Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. 6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. 7 Then I said, "Here I am, I have come — it is written about me in the scroll. 8 I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
NIV

Blessed, happy, content, satisfied, complete, fulfilled is the person who decides the Lord is the one to trust, to put their confidence in him. Life is at its best when we choose to trust the Lord, and that is not simply for salvation, although he is the only one who can offer us that. The idea about looking at the proud or turning to falsehoods carries the meaning of our daily living. It goes back to the not being about to serve two masters. We cannot put our trust in God and our trust in the proud, or the worlds system, which is a falsehood, a false god. If we want to live a full complete life of happiness and joy we have to decide to trust in the Lord. The world, the falsehood only offers worry and anxiety. The Lord offers everything good and wonderful. When we reflect on our life of faith walking with our Lord we remember the many wonders he did in our life. We recall all the times he provided for us, he directed us, he healed us, and he inspired us to be a person after his own heart. If we were to start a list, just as David has said, we would be at this list making for a very long time, if fact we might not be able to list everything he has done in us, for us and through us. The idea about God not wanting burnt offerings or sacrifice and offerings is in the phrase about ears being pierced. The Hebrew carries the meaning of the ears being opened, or getting the point, understanding that God does not require offerings or sacrifices, but he wants us. David says here I am, I have come. That is who God wants, us. We need to confess those same words, here I am, I have come. All too often we can get distracted from the truth doing things, even what we think are spiritual things, or godly things, works, deeds, etc. When in reality God does not want our sacrifice, our offerings, our life of doing, being busy. Consider Mary and Martha. Martha was all about service, about doing, about sacrifice and offerings, while Mary was about sitting at the feet of Jesus, giving herself fully to his words. This is the idea of here I am, I am at your feet learning about you, Jesus. Here I am, I desire to do your will, and your law is written on my heart. This is complete focus on Jesus, complete trust, complete commitment to his way for our life. When we get that we will be truly blessed. Here I am, Lord.
