PROPHESIES AND FULFILLMENTS CONCERNING CHRIST
HIS KINGDOM COME
Zech 9:9
9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See,
your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a
donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
NIV
The time has come for Jesus to make his appearance in Jerusalem for
what will be the event which is our salvation. There is much significance regarding
Jesus riding into the city on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Let us
look at the fulfillment of this prophecy.
John 12:12-15
13 They took palm branches and
went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!"
14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, 15 "Do
not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a
donkey's colt."
NIV
During the Old Testament times when a king entered a city after
conquering it he would ride upon a horse, a stallion, signifying his station,
his ruling authority. Riding on a colt or a donkey meant coming in peace. Jesus
was certainly coming in peace, In fact, to establish peace in the our hearts.
Jesus did answer this question about bringing peace to the world, which he did
not.
Luke 12:49-53
49 "I have come to bring fire on the
earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to
undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came
to bring peace on earth ? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there
will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and
two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against
father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law
against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
NIV
Yet he also said that he gives us his peace, not as the world gives
peace.
John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and
do not be afraid.
NIV
So he comes into the city the peace of prince for the express purpose
to bring us salvation, to give us peace with God. Before we became a believer
we were objects of wrath, we would experience the wrath of God on judgement
day. But since we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior we now have peace with
God. This also means we have peace in our hearts. We are not anxious about
anything. We are not afraid of anything. We are not jealous, nor do we carry any envy. We have no bitterness or hold any grudge, we are at peace. We live with a
sense of trust, no worries not matter what comes across our lives. Our life is
settled, content with who we are and where we are and what we have and what we
are doing. Our life is free from discord, discontentment, it has harmony and
completeness for we are in Christ. One day Jesus will ride again, this time
upon a horse as the conquering King of kings. But for now he has come into our
heart as Lord and Savior. He did not come to conquer us, but to be a way for us
to have peace with God. As the people heralded his entrance into the city, we
herald his entrance into our life, into our heart. Our King has come! His kingdom
has come.
