Looking to the source

DEVOTION
THE REVELATION
LOOKING TO THE SOURCE

Rev 18:9-10
9 "When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: "'Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!'
NIV

Once again it would certainly seem the kings of earth or the world leaders of nations will not be crying over the destruction of but one city. In fact if this were Jerusalem or some other great biblical city some world leaders would be rejoicing.  But if this were an ideology which is ascribed to by many if not all the world leaders, all who shared her luxury, then we could see them filled with grief, weeping and mourning over her. We have to go back to the world economy to see how this would be the one ideology that infects every nation, every world leader. As an example we merely have to see how what our country considers as giving aid to other nations, it is in the billions of dollars. Money is aid. It is the answer to all their problems, except the money does not go to the people of that nation, it goes to the world leader of that nation, who uses it to bolster his or her own power either economically, politically or religiously. The world leaders are in fact committing adultery with this ideology that money is the source of power, rather than God. They have rejected God as the source of all power, all authority. This great prostitute could also be the ideology of humanism, once again with man rejecting God and looking to himself as the source of power. However it is extremely unlikely the humanistic ideology would ever collapse, but the world economy, which is totally possible as we will next see how the merchants of the world are just as terrified by its complete collapse. What is our lesson? Do not look to the economy as our source of security. God is our only source. If we put faith in the economic system, giving our money to the world, which is under the influence of Satan rather than, as we are supposed to be, under the influence of God, we are committing adultery with her. If we look to the world system of financial security for our future, we have lost sight of the truth of God. We know of many believers who do not see this danger, and have given their money to Satan as long as he keeps filling their pockets with gold, so to speak, but they are mistaken if they think they can keep all that for themselves for their later years without any danger of it vanishing in a moment. When the world economy collapses it will touch the lives of everyone who puts any faith in money at all.  But we who trust the Lord completely will see no change, if we are still here when this great tribulation comes, and the wrath of God is poured out on mankind. God has promised us he will never forsake or leave us. He is our refuge, our strong tower.

Prov 18:10
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower ; the righteous run to it and are safe.
NIV

In the opposition to:

Prov 18:11
11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall.
NIV

We can see how men look to wealth as their unscalable wall, while we are safe in the name of the Lord. Their wall is going to crumble and fall down around them, while we remain safe in our strong tower, the name of the Lord. Although some would say being a Christian is for the weak minded, and that we have blind faith in that which we have no proof, while they can prove gold is the key to security. Yet our faith is based on the wisest of choices. Christianity is a thinking man’s faith. We search the word of God for his truths for our lives. We reject the wisdom of the world as it is foolishness to God. We search his wisdom, his truth and in doing so we are not committing adultery with her, we are not intoxicated with her wine. All the world leaders will be weeping, but we will not, we will remain filled with joy, filled with peace, filled with the love of God. We know who our source is. We are looking to the source.
