We're With Him

DEVOTION
THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
WE’RE WITH HIM
John 14:1-4
4:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
NIV

Praise God! There is absolutely no reason on God’s green Earth for our hearts to be troubled. We have a God to trust in, we have Jesus to trust in and we have a place prepared for us in the Fathers house and this place has a reserved sign on the door, we do not even have to check in or pay for the room, as it is provided completely at the expense of Jesus. God has even prepared a wedding banquet for us to attend as the bride of Christ. Jesus has done it all, and when the time is right he will come back for us and take us to this place. It is a bit of a mystery when we consider we have also been told that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, as we also are being told that when a certain day will come the dead will rise first and we who are still alive will rise to meet our Lord in the air. Many of us call that day the rapture of the church and we look at it as one day for all saints to rise to this place Jesus has prepared for us. Yet we are also aware that heaven is not our final destination as is hell for those who refuse to trust in God and trust in Jesus for there is a new Earth coming and a new city of Jerusalem coming which is our final place which has to be the place that Jesus is preparing for those of us who trust in God and also trust in Jesus. But back to him coming for us and when that might be. Could it be that he comes for each one of us at that time we are finished with this body? Of course the body is laid to rest in the grave and it would appear remains there, but we, our spirit ascends to the heavenly place where Jesus is now, at the right hand of the Father. Again we shall not remain there either as some day we will return to this earth to rule and reign with him for one thousand years, and then the great battle which is not much of a battle at all for Jesus will destroy the army of Satan simply with words. Then the end will come and this new Earth and new city will be our place of residence for all of eternity. This is the place Jesus speaks of, and we know that he is the only way we are ever going to get there. That is what he meant when he said that we know the way to the place he was going. He is the truth, the light and the way, there is no other way. We cannot make our own reservations, we cannot check ourselves in, and we cannot pay for our room, for Jesus has done it all. The only thing we can do is say, “We are with him”.
