The Day

DEVOTION 2 PETER THE DAY 2 Peter 3:10 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. NIV There are basically two types of people, those who are looking forward to the Day of the Lord and those who could not care anything about it, yet it is coming for certain. I am not sure what this is going to look like as far as the sky disappearing and the complete earth burned until there is nothing left at all. There is simply no other way to for all the elements to be destroyed by fire, nothing left, the whole of the earth gone, without a trace that it ever existed. It would seem to me that would include anything we have accumulated for our own comfort. But then we need this stuff at least until the Day of the Lord. A question follows as to what kind of people should we be, so I will leave that until then, but it does seem if this day of the Lord is coming like a thief, that is without any warning, just showing up, then it would also seem we should be looking for it. No one can prepare for the coming of a thief. Sure we can have alarm systems which might let us know when it is actually in our home, or even at the front door, but we cannot determine when he is actually going to show up. This is how it is going to be with the day of the Lord. We were already warning about the false prophets and teachings, and they surely must have been claiming they knew the time of this day. Even today the tabloids claim the end of the world is coming on this date or that. Some religious nutcases have claimed certain dates which have come and gone without a trace of this day of the Lord. It is clear not a single human being is going to know when this will happen. It does present us with a clear picture of what will happen when it does come, but then that would simply mean we need to be ready. There is a day coming and we should know about it, care about it, live for it, and tell others about it, so they too can be ready, for this day is going to be like no other day, it is the day of the lord.
