1ST KINGS

THOUGHTS

1 Kings 13:1-3

13:1 By the word of the LORD a man of God came from Judah to Bethel, as Jeroboam was standing by the altar to make an offering. 2 He cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD: "O altar, altar! This is what the LORD says: 'A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who now make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.'" 3 That same day the man of God gave a sign: "This is the sign the LORD has declared: The altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out."

NIV

This will happen just as the word of the LORD, a man of God, came to Judah to Bethel. All that this man of God said about this altar, this abomination to the LORD, would happen. Once again, we are faced with several truths. First, never make a false altar to the LORD.  We are the only ones who are to be living sacrifices, and we should not make anything else an altar. We know many churches have dedicated the front of the church as the altar, but maybe that is not pleasing to the Lord.

Ok, because it is Sunday, I am going to break with the routine. Look for another truth, it’s about the word of the Lord, and leave a comment about your thoughts.  If not, come back this afternoon, maybe about 3. I will give my thoughts.

well, no thoughts, that's alright, I understand, the man of God cried out against the altar, by the word of the LORD. This is the second truth: we should always be doing what is by the word of the Lord, rather than by our own words.
