Wait For It

 DEVOTION

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE

WAIT FOR IT

Luke 21:25-28

25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

NIV

Even though all that Jesus said before this was in history, it has not yet come as all that happened in Jerusalem in AD70 is nothing compared to what is to come on the earth and in the heavens when Jesus comes back to rule and reign for one thousand years, or all that could also happen just before he appears in the sky to call his people up from the graves and those that are still living to meet him in the air. All that is still not fully understood because we all could meet him in the air and then return with him to rule and reign with him for the one-thousand-year period in which he chains up the devil in the abyss. Nevertheless, no one knows the hour or the day all this will happen. It is always interesting to hear the doomsday environmentalists predicting how much the oceans have risen because of a couple of icebergs melting. The earth is 71 percent water with 97 percent of that salt water, which means all the oceans. A few melting icebergs are like spitting in the ocean. When it is time for Jesus to return those doomsdayers haven’t seen anything like what will happen to the rising ocean levels. They will look like they are boiling over, so much so, ships will be tossed around like little toys. The skies will be ablaze with the glory of God. All of creation will respond to the coming of Jesus, for he is the creator of all that was created, and he is his, and under his authority. Man has no authority over creation no matter how much they want to think they do, or can have any effect on what God has created, for He God and when He acts, when Jesus returns in the clouds it will be with power and great glory. When we see all this happening on the earth and in the skies, all we need to do is look up, Jesus is coming for us. But until then we will live with courageous endurance, waiting for the day of our redemption. We wait for it.
