Famine

DEVOTION
GENESIS
FAMINE

Gen 41:53-57
53 The seven years of abundance in Egypt came to an end, 54 and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. 55 When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph and do what he tells you." 56 When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. 57 And all the countries came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe in all the world.
NIV

This is surely a picture of God the Father and Jesus Christ. Here the Father or the King is represented by Pharaoh and Joseph gives us the picture of Christ. The famine is no doubt the spiritual famine that has come to the world we live in today. There is such a lack for the concerns of God throughout the world. We are seeing more and more each day, not just in the rise of Islam and their false god, but right here in our beloved country. Our government is systematically removing any standards of morality or spiritual truths this country was founded upon. We are becoming a nation that is morally bankrupt as well as starving spiritually. Sure, there are a few of us who love the Lord, but we are in such a minority among a nation, a world of heathens. There is a famine so great it is affecting the whole world. The only answer for this famine is where all the food is stored up. Surely the world have full bellies, but starving souls.

Phil 3:18-19
18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach , and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
NIV

The king tells the nations, go to Christ and do what he tells you. Jesus will sell you salvation. Joseph asked for money, then livestock, then land and finally for their service, they very selves. Jesus only asks for our self. He allows us to keep our money, our livestock, our land, home and such, He only asks for us to surrender our will to him, to accept him as Lord and Savior and then our spirits will be full, there will be no more famine. He is the answer to all our needs. Yes, this physical famine was to bring Israel to Egypt, to supply God’s chosen people with all they need. But the story unfolds this deeper truth which applies to us today as well. Let us never go hungry or thirsty.

John 6:35-36
35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry , and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
NIV

He is the relief from the famine.
